About Veterans Protest

The originator of www.veteransprotest.com is Billy Fitzgerald who served with the Kings own royal border regiment from 1970 to 1976. During his service he was shot and suffered mental health problems due to his service, he left the army with no help or back up from the Government, nor was he told about the war pesnion system.

Billy has been in psychiatric wards a number of times. One time when he was living on the streets he was taken by the police to the local mental health unit only to be told "I see you are an ex soldier with PTSD have you come here for bed and breakfast", after that remark Billy said he would try and help as many Ex-services as possible.

Billy is involved in a word-of-mouth and internet network of ex-services mostly ex-soldiers. In his time he has cut down a ex soldier who hung himself because he could not get the help he needed after his experience in Gulf 1.

The aim of www.veteransprotest.com is to highlight the plight of ex-service personel with service injuries whether they be mental or physical. The reasons Billys name was originally left off the "About us" section was he that he wanted to remain anonymous, but because of the remarks made he as asked me to add some info about him. Billy - "If you have no health problems and your war pension is suitable for you, fine but please do not think that that is the norm because it is not. Too many Veterans are ending up, in prison, insane, drug addicts, alcholics homeless and very lonely. These are the type of problems I see on a daily basis.

I know of one Gulf 2 veteran who was medically discharged with PTSD 3 years ago. He still has not had help from combat stress or had treatment from his local health department because they do not have the staff or expertise to treat him (he suffers from flashbacks, panic attacks and agoraphobia).

That is what www.veteransprotest.com is about, to highlight those problems.
